Introduction
Optiscan actively participates in clinical and basic research aimed at proving
and developing the utility of its products. Activities range from clinical
studies conducted by Optiscan or its partners to evaluate new medical procedures,
right through to laboratory development of new imaging paradigms that will
become the clinical techniques of tomorrow.
Trials in which Optiscan participates include:
- Pentax Corporation’s international gastrointestinal endoscopy
clinical trial program
- Clinical evaluation of rigid endoscopes for intraoperative histology
of pancreas, liver and abdominal organs during open or keyhole surgery
- Pre-clinical respiratory medicine
- Clinical evaluation of rigid endoscopes for diagnosis and staging
of cervical cancer
- Pre-clinical studies of rigid endoscopes in orthopaedic medicine
for imaging injured or arthritic joints
- Clinical evaluation of hand-held probes for imaging of the eye (ophthalmology)
- Investigation of future imaging paradigms such as molecular and gene targeted
imaging with direct relevance to cancer detection and pharmaceutical development.
