Optiscan’s fibre confocal technology is licensed to all producers of benchtop (non miniaturised) confocal microscopes. Producer licensees of Optiscan’s technology are:
A modest royalty is paid on each confocal microscope sold or manufactured by each company in geographies where patent coverage applies.
Royalties from these licensees currently earn Optiscan almost $1 Million a year and this is set to increase by up to 40 percent following the Japanese Patent Office upholding one of Optiscan’s core patents. There will be a further and significant increase to over $2 Million a year when licensing is negotiated to extend into Germany, France, Italy, and the UK, as a consequence of the recent decision of the European Patent Office to uphold one of Optiscan's core patents.
