Endomicroscope Controls
- The tip of the endomicroscope is placed in gentle contact with the tissue
- Laser light from the confocal scanning insert is projected and focussed to a fixed point
- Buttons on the endoscope control body are used to move the position of the focal plane within the tissue
- As the confocal scanning insert moves back within the endomicroscope tip, laser light is focussed to a point near the tissue surface
- The confocal image plane is in a position near the surface of the tissue
- When the confocal scanning insert moves forward within the endomicroscope tip, laser light is focussed to a point deeper in the tissue
- The image plane is positioned deeper in the tissue
- The pressure or position of the endomicroscope tip against the tissue remains unchanged when adjusting imaging depth
