A collaborative partnership was formed in 2002 between Optiscan Pty Ltd and Pentax Corporation (Japan), in order to bring to market a flexible endoscope with the ability to image cellular structures within the gastrointestinal tract. By combining Pentax’s expertise as leading endoscope manufacturers and Optiscan’s strength in highly miniaturized confocal technology, the development of an integrated flexible confocal endomicroscope has been achieved.
The product received regulatory clearances from the FDA in the USA, and
the CE Mark for Europe, and was released to the world market on 1 March 2006.
Clinical trials have been initiated by Pentax at hospital sites throughout the world (Clinical Applications and Trials section)
